Some of our customers drop their cars off for their MOT, and come back to pick it up later.
Others like to wait. Sometimes, if it’s really rainy or cold – going out without your car is the last thing you want to do!
That’s why we’ve put together a nice waiting room, with free hot drinks and WiFi. But if there’s nobody around to chat to, and you’ve got nothing but 45 minutes and a phone, what can you do to pass the time?
Well, you can start by reading this. But that’ll only take about five minutes…
Let’s turn waiting into something wonderful.
Here, we share some productive, fun, and silly ideas for things to do while you wait for your MOT test to finish – things that AREN’T doom scrolling your way through social media apps!
-
Read a book
Always struggling to find time to read? Well, now’s your chance! Dust off that old paperback you bought on Amazon years ago – that you promised yourself you’d read – and get stuck into it.
-
Listen to a podcast or audiobook
If reading’s not your thing, maybe audiobooks or podcasts are. Lots of people like to learn new things this way – and we’ve got to admit… There’s definitely something very comforting about being read to.
-
Call someone you love
There’s always someone we love who we never really get a chance to speak with anymore, or to see as often as we like. Mums, dads, sisters, brothers, uncles and aunts, old friends… whoever it is you’re thinking of right now, give them a call and catch up. You won’t regret it.
-
Research a new place to eat
Find a new favourite takeaway or fancy place to go for dinner one night. Break out of the usual rut, and look forward to a nice treat!
-
Do a quick mindfulness meditation exercise
Feeling out of sorts? Stressed out? A bit low? Take a chance on mindfulness exercises. Yes, they sound like total new age guff – but they can work wonders. Your mind is part of your body, and it needs to be cared for just as much as any other part of you. Check out YouTube for a quick and easy introduction to mindfulness.
-
Research local events
Food, film and music festivals happen all around, all the time. Check out what’s on locally, and pick some new experiences to look forward to.
-
Do some emails
Some of us carry our work around with us. If you’re putting off a difficult email or work thing, give yourself this time to think it through and draft out a response. Get it off your mind.
-
Finally write that list of stuff that needs doing
You’ve got time to get it all out. DIY projects, defrosting the freezer, sorting out the loft… Whatever it is that occupies your brain, put it down into a list – one that you can conquer. Give everything a do-by date, but don’t let it get out of hand. Just one a week is enough to make progress without getting overwhelmed!
-
Research a topic you’re really interested in
Loads of us are strapped for time these days. We don’t get to do as much as we want – including learning about new things. Cooking, fishing, gaming – whatever you love, dig deeper into it.
-
Learn more about what’s going on in your MOT test
If you’re interested, you can check out our MOT FAQs, learn about the MOT emissions test, or find out what the most common MOT failures are. We’ve got a pretty comprehensive MOT help and advice section, too, where you can find out simple checks to carry out yourself.
